Keeping your website secure is a critical and serious issue. There are a few things that you can do to increase your security. First and foremost is your password. As the site owner you have access to sensitive areas of the site that others do not. Do not use easy to guess passwords, and change them on a regular basis.
At Rockford Webs, we add a whole layer of protection to keep Hackers out. When customers choose this option, we erect an entire shell of security around your website. While no one can guarantee a hacker free site, we can say that we have never had a successful hack attempt on any of our sites which utilize this security.
Did You Know
Mobile Site
Your Website can be configured to automatically detect when a mobile device (IPhone, Android, Smartphone, etc) is accessing and deliver content formatted just for that device?
Slow Web Hosts
A cheap hosting service keeps their prices low by severely overselling the server. If all of the sites on an oversold server are used at the same time, then the response time (time to load your page) is very, very slow. Google now punishes sites that respond too slowly and pushes their ranking lower.
Hackers
Hackers will try to compromise your site for one of 4 main reasons: Thrill of the conquest (young adolescents), To obtain Private Information (Credit Cards, Customer Data, Email Addresses), To extort (the Hacker will restore your site upon payment, To use your computer as a "zombie". Zombie computers churn out spam emails without the owners knowledge or consent.
All Browsers are not Equal!
Web browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Chrome, etc) are not all equal. Some pages do not display correctly on certain web browsers because the web browser does not properly interpret the HTML and CSS. Internet Explorer is the worst offender. Firefox does best.
SEO Scam
Companies that advertise guaranteed 1st page placement in Google are almost always a scam. They can provide 1st page placement only for obscure search terms that no one uses, such as "Gravity free dog collars that glow in the dark". SEO is indeed a serious vocation with a high level of Internet knowledge required for success - but reputable companies never make such claims. Buyer beware!
